Description

This unit explores how energy is produced and used, and how this links to climate change. Pupils compare renewable and non-renewable sources, consider how energy use can be reduced, and evaluate different responses to the world’s growing energy demands.

This unit gives pupils the knowledge and tools to understand how our use of energy affects the planet. Its placement builds on earlier units about natural resources and the Amazon, encouraging pupils to connect energy production with environmental change. Pupils compare renewable and non-renewable sources, explore the causes and consequences of energy choices, and consider how individuals, communities and governments can respond to the energy challenge. This prepares them to think critically and constructively in the final sustainability-focused unit.
