Fieldwork: how can we investigate the sustainability of our school?

6 lessons

Description

This unit teaches pupils about the fieldwork enquiry process. Each lesson guides pupils through a stage of a fieldwork enquiry to help them investigate the sustainability of their school.

Pupils will already have learned about sustainability and the need to conserve natural resources in earlier Year 5 units. This prior knowledge provides a foundation for considering the sustainability of their own school. Fieldwork is an essential part of geographical enquiry, and while pupils have undertaken fieldwork in previous units, this is a good stage to explore the fieldwork enquiry process in greater depth.

  1. Planning to do fieldwork
  2. Writing a fieldwork enquiry question
  3. Collecting our geographical data
  4. Presenting our geographical data
  5. Examining our geographical data
  6. Reflecting on our fieldwork enquiry

  • An understanding of the term sustainability.
  • Knowledge and experience of using maps and aerial images.
