Description

In this unit pupils will take a hermenutical reading of scripture to assess the status of women in the Bible. Through a series of key stories they will analyse how women are portrayed and how these stories have been interpreted and re-interpreted over the centuries.

There is sensitive content in this unit related to violence and the impact of warfare on women as well as the use of women as concubines and and so it has been placed at an appropriate point for developing emotional maturity. It also builds on understanding of hermeneutics gained in previous units to promote effective analysis of scripture. This unit promotes depth of theological understanding but also highlights the contribution of women in Christianity and opposes misogyny.
