Description

In this unit pupils will examine how Christianity has been challenged by, and adapted to, cultures and the experiences of the Global South. Focussing on Africa and South America, pupils will look at theologians and practices that have emerged and the challenges they have made.

Pupils will have built up an understanding of Christian history and practice through a focus on denominations in Year 7, the person of Jesus and theologies of suffering in Year 8 and law and authority in Year 9. Here pupils consider the global nature of Christianity, its particular formation in Africa, and especially how Global South figures have brought together indigenous practices and ideas with Christianity to focus on poverty, discrimination and envrironmental degradation.
