Changing world: How should the Earth's resources be used?

Downloads can take a few minutes, especially for larger files or slower connections.

Why this why now

To balance breadth of content without losing focus, this unit is placed to complement the previous unit of study on census data. This gives pupils a full term looking at religion and modernity but with a shift in focus now to application of religious teaching to current issues. This unit is supported by content from year 8 on what constitutes a good life and the earlier year 9 units on interpretation of religious law and teaching in line with your conscience.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils will know that many Jews, Christians and Muslims believe the earth was created by God.
  • Pupils will know that philosophers try to make reasoned arguments about issues.
  • Pupils will know that the earth faces major challenges such as climate change.
  • Pupils will understand that different worldviews may interpret issues differently.
