Study of the census helps pupils of all faiths and none engage with religion in Britian today and helps to show faith as a current and relevant topic. This will reinforce prior learning on Jesus and the census at the time of his birth. By placing unit is later in KS3 to benefit from development in social science as a way of knowing so pupils can successfully utilise the research of Linda Woodhead and delve into the diversity of people selecting no religion and the spectrum of why people in Britain identify as Christian.

In this unit pupils will interpret census data to explore religion and belief in the UK. They will examine the growing diversity within Christianity and the rise of cultural Christians. They will use work by the sociologist, Linda Woodhead, to analyse the rise of 'no religion' in the UK.
