Description

This unit introduces infinitives and singular persons of -ar regular verbs. Pupils use these verbs in the context of in class and outdoor activities to ask and answer about what they and others do. Pupils also learn singular definite articles ‘el’ and ‘la’ meaning ‘the’.

This unit extends pupils’ knowledge of verbs, introducing them to singular persons of some high frequency regular -ar verbs in the present tense. Pupils build on their knowledge of intonation questions, extending the pattern to their growing repertoire of verbs, enabling them to communicate about the activities that they and other do in class and outdoors. Developing their knowledge of nouns and articles, pupils also learn to use singular definite articles ‘el’ and ‘la’ to refer to specific nouns in short sentences that also combine their growing knowledge of irregular and regular verbs.

  • Pupils understand the concept of grammatical gender and how it is reflected in the words for 'a/an' in Spanish.
  • Pupils know singular persons of three irregular verbs: 'estar', 'ser' and 'tener'.
  • Pupils know that Spanish verb forms change endings to match the subject acting on the verb.
