Description

This unit is an opportunitiy to be aware of Freedom of Religion or Belief as a Human Right as articulated in Human Rights frameworks. Pupil will look at a historical case study to better understand how these rights may be protected or violated. They will apply their learning to modern case studies.

  1. Freedom: what is it and how is it protected?
  2. Freedom of religion or belief: what did it look like in the past?
  3. Freedom of religion or belief: what does it look like now?
  4. Competing and balancing rights
  5. Considering contested issues around freedom of religion or belief

  • Pupils will understand what is meant by religious or non-religious worldviews.
  • Pupils will know that there is a universal declaration of Human Rights.
  • Pupils will understand the concept of freedom.
  • Pupils will understand that some rights are protected by UK law.
