In previous units pupils have been introduced to the elements of art which form the building blocks of the subject. This unit builds on the elements with the principles of art, in which pupils understand how to critique work using the fundamental concepts. The pupils are able to articulate their thoughts and opinions about artwork using more complex subject specific vocabulary.

This unit expands pupils understanding of the foundations of creative practice, building on knowledge of the elements of art, to now explore more complex principles. This will deepen understanding of how artists use these principles to question the world around them and communicate their ideas.
