Description

In this unit pupils will discover the difference between general purpose and embedded systems. They will examine computer architecture and the components that make up a processor. Pupils will recognise the need for storage and be able to select a suitable storage device for a given purpose.

In this unit, pupils will gain an understanding and knowledge of how computer systems work. Starting with the building blocks of the microprocessor, logic gates, pupils will discover how a computer system works and executes instructions. They will reflect on the need for secondary storage and be able to make recommendations about the most suitable storage device for a given purpose. To conclude the unit pupils will analyse the impact of computing devices on the environment.
