Description

In this unit pupils will explore how data travels across the internet. They will explore how protocols define communication between devices and the purpose of common network protocols. They will investigate the risks to networks and the methods that can be used to protect a network.

This unit further develops pupils' understanding of network communication by exploring how the internet is network of connected networks. They learn about the protocols that enable devices connected to the internet to communicate with one another and how these protocols are arranged in protocol stacks such as TCP/IP. Pupils will learn how a web browser works and the role of DNS and IP addressing in the WWW. The unit concludes by pupils exploring common threats to networks and the methods that can be used to protect networks.
