Description

This unit introduces pupils to databases and SQL, they will explore the key terms used in a database and why relational databases are used to eliminate the redundancy that can occur in a flat file database. They will explore SQL commands to retrieve, update, and delete data in a relational database.

This unit introduces pupils to the world of databases and SQL. Pupils will have worked with datasets in KS3 but will not have experienced data management systems. Pupils will explore the key terms used in a database and learn why relational databases are used to eliminate the redundancy and inconsistencies that can occur in a flat file database. Pupils will explore increasingly challenging SQL commands where they retrieve, update, and delete data in a relational database. To conclude the unit pupils will investigate the legal, ethical and environmental impacts of data and data systems.
