Description

In this unit, pupils will evaluate the online world and their own internet activity for safety concerns in order to equip themselves with tools for protecting their online identities. They key takeaway of this unit is a repository of practical, risk-reducing steps that pupils can implement online.

As most pupils will already have some form of online presence and familiarity with online spaces, the purpose of this course is for them to start thinking more critically about how they, and others, conduct themselves online. Pupils will also be asked to discuss key debates around the online world, such as the extent of their right to privacy, and which powers should be granted to organisations and states. As much as possible, pupils should be encouraged to develop their own ideas and opinions in order to become engaged citizens when it comes to online rights.

  1. Being safe online
  2. Online reputation
  3. Big data and data protection
  4. Right to privacy
  5. Illegal content
  6. Right to access
  7. Social media bubbles
  8. Protecting myself online
