Pupils will draw on their prior learning from population and development to help make sense of Nigeria's diverse society and use their knowledge of globalisation to understand how Nigeria's economy is integrated into the global economy.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Africa is a continent with 54 countries in it.
  • Countries are often categorised as low income, middle income or high income countries depending upon their wealth.
  • There are significant inequalities in wealth and quality of life between countries and within countries.
  • Global warming is caused by the increase in greenhouse gas emissions released by humans.
  • Colonialism was a system in which wealthier countries controlled other countries around the world.
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) can give us information about differences across the world.
