This unit teaches pupils about the location, characterisitics, opprtunities and challenges associated with one global environment, either hot deserts or cold environments. Pupils will also learn about plant and animal adaptation and about issues facing their chosen environment.

Pupils can build on their knowledge of small-scale ecosystems and large-scale biomes to develop a comprehensive understanding of a chosen extreme environment, either a hot desert or a cold environment. Understanding the connections between physical and human processes will provide a foundation in studying subsequent units.

  2. Plant and animal adaptations, issues relating to biodiversity
  3. Development opportunities and challenges in the Kalahari Desert
