Ice and glaciers: How are cold places affected by a warming planet?

12 lessons

Threads

  • Physical systems and processes
  • Sustainability and climate change

Description

This unit teaches pupils about the physical processes that influence cold places around the world and how areas of ice have changed over time due to climatic variations. Pupils will learn about the impact of global warming on glaciated areas and what this means for the future of our planet.

This unit draws on pupils' knowledge of erosion, deposition, and transportation from previous units on rivers and coasts to help them understand glacial processes. It also builds on pupils' knowledge of recent climate change to show how longer-term climate change has shaped our physical landscape. Pupils will use the knowledge gained from this unit in their future regional study on Russia.
