Rivers: How do rivers shape the land?

12 lessons

Threads

  • Physical systems and processes
  • Risk and resilience

Description

This unit teaches pupils about how river processes shape the land and affect our lives. Pupils will use fieldwork to investigate downstream changes in rivers and use GIS to analyse flood risk across geographical space. Pupils will also evaluate different methods of flood management.

This unit helps pupils understand how rivers shape the land and impact the human environment. Pupils will gain an insight into how flooding can be mitigated to reduce risk and consider whether intervention is sustainable for people and the environment. Pupils will draw on their past knowledge of weather and climate to understand the physical systems, which influence rivers.
