Description

This unit teaches pupils about the physical and human geography of the DRC and how natural resources bring both opportunities and challenges. Pupils will also learn about the Congo rainforest and how conservation efforts are trying to protect this important biome.

This unit allows pupils to investigate a country at a lower stage of development and challenge preconceived ideas about what life is like in a lower income country. The unit gives pupils knowkedge of both the physical and human geography of the DRC and asks pupils to consider its opportunities and challenges. Pupils will draw on past physical geography knowledge from units on weather and climate, tectonics and forest biomes and also knowledge from units on development and globalisation to make sense of the DRC's economy and society.
