Description

This unit teaches pupils about the evidence, causes and impacts of climate change. Pupils learn that climate change is not just a recent trend but that it has occurred natuarlly over geological time. Pupils will also learn about the strategic options associated with mitigation and adaptation.

This unit naturally builds on pupils prior knowledge gained from studying weather hazards in the previous unit. Climate change underpins many of the issues considered in subsequent units, such as global economic development, energy resources and urban planning.

  • Pupils understand the difference between weather and climate
  • Pupils have a basic understanding of geological time
  • Pupils can describe and infer trends using maps, diagrams and graphs

  • Pupils can understand the difference between natural and human factors/causes
  • Pupils have locational knowledge of the world, including continents and oceans
  • Pupils understand that peoples' activities can lead to climate change
