Description

This unit focuses upon personal experiences to consolidate and deepen pupil knowledge and understanding of Action-Space-Dynamics-Relationships to create, develop and analyse ideas, motifs and dances. Pupils will use similarities and differences to form connections and contrast.

Throughout KS1 and KS2, pupils have had the opportunity to choreograph dance sequences in character, demonstrating musicality, emotion and creativity, aligned to multiple stimuli. This unit will take the next step into developing pupils' knowledge and application of specific dance steps and challenge pupils to focus on the aesthetics of their performance. Pupils will be required to utilise their current knowledge and understanding around choreography in order to create and perform complex dance sequences, using specific dance steps alongside accurate timing.

  1. Dance: can you accurately replicate a movement sequence?
  2. Dance: can you use a motif to explore actions, space and dynamics?
  3. Dance: can you choreograph your own expressive dance performance?

  • Pupils know how to use dance as an effective means of communicating ideas.
  • Pupils understand a variety of techniques to respond to a stimuli.
  • Pupils are able to develop motifs and use them effectively to build short dance routines.
  • Pupils show an awareness of a wide range of physical, choreographic and analytical skills concurrently.
