Home learning: outdoor adventure activities and problem solving

2 lessons

Description

This unit explores pupils' ability to use a map, compass and plan a route. Developing the confidence to plan and follow movement routes accurately is a valuable cross curricular skill.

Pupils will already have developed basic skills to operate within and as a team, but this unit challenges pupils to apply them in unique scenarios that require problem solving and creative thinking. Later in outdoor adventurous activities, pupils will get the opportunity to engage in activities beyond the school walls which will further develop their teamwork and leadership skills.

  1. Compass directions: can you plan and follow routes accurately?
  2. Route planning: can you plan and map a route that others could follow?

  • Pupils know hope to solve problems by drawing on creative thinking and logic.
  • Pupils understand that critical reflection improves future performance.
  • Pupils are able to recognise key features on a map.
  • Pupils show patience and resilience when faced with a challenging task.
