KS3 & KS4 physical education curriculum

Pupils will already have experienced basic ideas in gymnastics to include exploring how to balance, roll, rotate and safe ways to land from apparatus including a bench. Pupils will now refine their technique and body awareness to execute more challenging skills and build more complex sequences in pairs. Later in gymnastics they will become more technically fluent and able to analyse group performances.

• Pupils know that gymnastics requires good body control and an awareness of safety to always work within personal capabilities.
• Pupils understand that gymnastics requires the development of individual skills but also collaborative skills to support each other to refine and improve their performance.
• Pupils are able to perform basic balances and create a short sequence with good body form.
• Pupils show an awareness of each other and appreciate that some balances, rotations or vaults will be more familiar to some pupils than others.
