Description

In this unit the food and dietary needs of different groups are examined. Dishes and meals are planned, based on their specific needs and healthy eating guidelines. Pupils make an oven baked veggie korma to celebrate with their school community.

Eating a healthy, varied diet is an important part of maintaining good health and reducing ill-health in our communities. Using learning from previous units, through the threads of Healthy eating and nutrition, Consumer awareness, and Food culture, dishes and meals can be planned and prepared to meet needs as they change throughout life. These threads continue to be developed in Year 7, examining additional factors affecting food choice and food customs.

  1. Healthy communities
  2. Feeding communities
  3. Baked savoury rice

  • Pupils can apply healthy eating tips to what they cook and eat.
  • Pupils can evaluate dishes and meals against the Eatwell Guide for improvements.
  • Pupils can explain how food is part of different customs, traditions and celebrations.
  • Pupils know that there are a wide range of dishes and meals cooked and eaten around the world.
