Description

In this unit pupils taste a range of fruit and vegetables to develop their sensory skills. They explore why people eat different types of food, such as time of day or culture, and plan and make a salad for their family.

What we eat and drink are influenced by many factors and understanding the context of these through tasting and family values enables us to make informed food decisions. These concepts are extended from the Early Years Foundation Stage Early Learning Goals, People, culture and communities, and Creating with materials, and introduce personal and family food preferences, culture and location. Factors affecting food choice are developed in Year 2, via the thread Consumer awareness, focusing on food occasions, celebrations and global cuisine.
