  • Food preparation and cooking
  • Healthy eating and nutrition
  • The science of food

Description

In this unit pupils map and plan meals inline with the Eatwell Guide food groups, suggesting improvements for the future. Pupils make a frittata, highlighting the food group included, as well as possible additions.

Our diets, the food and drink consumed over time, should follow the food groups and proportions as depicted in the Eatwell Guide. Being able to plan against these principles helps to establish healthier eating patterns, as well as address less healthy patterns. This builds on previous learning through the Healthy eating and nutrition thread, such as knowing the food groups, and putting advice into practice. Energy and nutrients provided by the food groups, and their role, are examined in Year 5.

  1. My meals the Eatwell Guide way
  2. Eat well everyday
  3. Making mini frittatas
