Description

In this unit pupils investigate food and drinks providing energy and nutrients for our health. They explore some of the functions of nutrients, as well as food sources. Main nutrients are linked to the Eatwell Guide food groups.

Food and drinks provide the energy and nutrients required by the body to grow, be active and maintain health. Being able to describe different nutrients, and their sources and function, gives an appreciation for the need and importance of a varied and balanced diet for good nutrition. This learning extends the Healthy eating and nutrition thread from Year 4, showing how the Eatwell Guide conveys nutrition messaging via food groups. In Year 6, pupils use and apply Healthy eating and nutrition messages to their own and others' diets.
