Description

This unit introduces pupils to The Eatwell Guide, exploring its key messages and food groups. The composition of healthy meals is examined, focusing on 5 A DAY and drinking plenty. Pupils use a range of food skills to make a healthy wrap based on the Eatwell Guide food groups.

The Eatwell Guide forms the basis of healthy eating advice to the UK population aged 5+ years; learning about this equips pupils with the ability to make healthy choices in life. Building on Year 1, food and drink being essential for life, the unit introduces the fundamental building blocks of healthy eating and drinking advice. In future, these principles will be revisited and explored further in Year 3, Food and drink choices, planning healthy meals for themselves and others, and food for special occasions.
