Remote learning: locomotion

Downloads can take a few minutes, especially for larger files or slower connections.

Why this why now

The unit introduces pupils to locomotion skills that can be developed and applied in a wide range of upcoming units. Building on their foundational movement skills from early years, pupils will develop motor competence when learning how to run and jump. This progresses into the application of these skills when creating short sequences, as well as exploring balancing. This learning equips pupils with the knowledge to understand how, where and why we move, before combining this understanding with other curriculum areas.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils can experiment with moving in different ways.
  • Pupils can travel with confidence.
  • Pupils can move using a variety of speeds and levels.
  • Pupils will be able to create a simple movement sequence.
