Home learning: moving well

Description

This unit will teach pupils the meaning of strength, flexibility, agility, balance and general movement competence to support overall fitness. Pupils will complete focused circuits developing their own movement skills, enhancing their understanding of the importance of healthy active lifestyles.

This unit provides pupils with the opportunity to build on their understanding of effective and purposeful movement. Pupils will take part in physical activities that build their understanding and knowledge of agility, balance, strength and flexibility. The unit will start to combine all prior learning around the importance of a healthy active lifestyle and inspire pupils to take ownership of their own health and wellbeing. Later in the unit, pupils have the chance to perform personal best efforts to challenge their fitness.

  1. Moving well: can you challenge your personal best through strength activities?
  2. Moving well: can you challenge your personal best through aerobic activities?
  3. Moving well: can you challenge your personal best using flexibility activities?
  4. Moving well: can you balance on a range of body parts and link them together?
  5. Moving well: can you jump for distance using the correct technique?
  6. I can apply the correct technique for a range of actions in a movement circuit.

  • Pupils can identify changes in their heartbeat and breathing when they exercise.
  • Pupils understand how exercise makes them feel both physically and mentally.
  • Pupils understand the positive impact exercise has on their bodies.
  • Pupils understand what we mean by agility, balance and coordination.
  • Pupils understand how to execute balances.
  • Pupils know how to move their body in a variety of ways.
