Description

This unit introduces pupils to the concepts of identities and communities and how these change over time and contexts.

Pupils learn about their identities and communities because they are beginning to understand the world around them. Understanding identities and community and diverse perspectives is crucial as their sense of belonging develops. This knowledge helps them appreciate how identities and communities change over time and helps to build a strong sense of interconnection and community.

  • Pupils know that their actions affect themselves and others, to care about other people's feelings and to try to see things from their points of view.
  • Pupils know to recognise and challenge stereotypes.
  • Pupils know the differences and similarities between people arise from a number of factors, including cultural, ethnic, racial and religious diversity, gender and disability.
  • Pupils appreciate the range of national, regional, religious and ethnic identities in the United Kingdom.
