  • The present

Description

In this unit, pupils are introduced to the verb 'dormir' in singular persons. They use negation 'ne...pas' with single verb structures and 'ne...pas de' before nouns, as they use high frequency vocabulary for activities they don't do or say what isn't in a place. SSCs [ai] and [ch] are revisited.

In this unit, pupils continue to consolidate common irregular -re and -ir verbs, and add 'dormir' in singular persons. Revisiting common verb patterns and gradually introducing common irregular ones is essential in building and securing this knowledge. Negation is introduced, with 'ne...pas' for single verb structures, and 'ne...pas de' before a noun with 'il y a', 'avoir, 'être' and 'faire'. Applying known and new vocabulary (including prepositions) helps build confidence with the new structures.

  1. What isn't happening: 'ne … pas' negation
  2. What people do and don't do: 'ne … pas' negation
  3. What isn't there: negation before a noun with 'il y a'
  4. What isn't done: negation before a noun with 'avoir', 'être', 'faire'

  • Pupils know common -ir verbs 'sortir' and 'venir' in the present tense.
  • Pupils know common -re verbs 'prendre', 'apprendre', 'comprendre' and 'dire' in the present tense.
  • Pupils can use regular -er verbs in the present tense.
  • Pupils can use 'il y a' with indefinite articles and nouns.
