Description

In this unit pupils use the singular forms of 'être' in order to meet and greet friends and to ask and answer questions. Regular high frequency adjectives in masculine and feminine forms are used to describe friends. The Silent Final Consonant is introduced along with the SSCs a, i and eu.

This unit introduces the highly irregular but highest frequency verb 'être' in singular forms (je, tu, il/elle) for immediate receptive and productive use in greetings, basic question (raised intonation form) and answer conversations. The concept of adjective agreement is introduced for male and female persons, and will be applied in later units to items with the grammatical gender masculine and feminine. This unit also introduces the silent final consonant, a prominent feature of French phonics, which will be revisited and consolidated frequently in later units.

  2. Describe a person or thing: regular gender adjective agreement
