KS3 & KS4 French curriculum

In this unit, pupils consolidate their knowledge of avoir and être and adjective placement and agreement as they apply it in the context of describing a friend. Grammatical gender is reinforced with the introduction of the definite articles, and application of nouns and determiners extended with regular plural nouns and 'les'. New vocabulary including adverbs and feminine job titles extends pupils' communicative competence in writing. It also encourages the development of a personal repertoire as pupils can add their own vocabulary to describe a friend.

• Pupils know the pronouns je, tu, il and elle.
• Pupils can use the verbs 'avoir' and 'être' in the first, second and third person singular.
• Pupils know that there are two genders in French: masculine and feminine.
• Pupils know the indefinite articles 'un' and 'une'.
• Pupils know that adjectives often come after the noun.
• Pupils can make questions by raising their voices at the end of sentences.
