KS3 & KS4 French curriculum

In this unit, pupils are introduced to the singular persons of the irregular and 2nd highest frequency verb 'avoir' to talk about things they and others have. The concept of grammatical gender is introduced with the indefinite articles 'un' and 'une' . Pupils extend their existing knowledge of adjectives and adjectival agreement with new vocabulary and common rule of adjectives after the nouns they describe. Providing opportunities to practise asking intonation questions and answering them develops pupils' communicative competence and confidence at this early stage of learning.

2. What someone has: avoir 1st and 3rd persons singular
3. Ask what someone has: 'avoir' 2nd person singular
4. Belongings: adjective position after nouns and the alphabet

• Pupils know the pronouns je, tu, il and elle.
• Pupils can use the verb être in the first, second and third person singular.
• Pupils know that adjectives can change in the feminine form.
• Pupils know how to make a question by using intonation.
• Pupils can pronounce the sounds [a], [i], and [eu].
• Pupils can recognise silent final consonants.
• Pupils know the terms 'masculine' and 'feminine'.
