Description

Pupils embed irregular -ir and -re verbs. They distinguish between jouer à, jouer de and faire de, and practise 'de' as a partitive article (du, de la, des, de l'). They use de, d in negatives, expressions of quantity and learn adverb positioning. SSCs -s-, th, -ill-, -ille, -aill-, -ail are taught.

In this unit, pupils reactivate and embed a significant amount of known grammar and vocabulary. The key present tense patterns of regular and frequent irregular verbs help cement this core knowledge. Plentiful practice of the preposition 'de' with verbs, as partitive article and in negatives builds pupils' understanding, accuracy and communicative competence as they ask and answer questions about regular activities, daily routine and shopping. Both present and past tenses are revisited in extended spoken and written production as pupils' competence with different time frames improves.
