Description

The perfect tense with 'avoir' for -er verbs, faire and dire is extended for all singular forms. Intonation and 'est-ce que' questions and negation in the present and perfect tenses are practised, and 'il y a' is contrasted with 'il y avait'. Open eu,oeu, open o and closed o,ô are taught.

In this unit, pupils anchor their knowledge of the present tense and extend their knowledge of the perfect tense with 'avoir' in all singular forms for -er verbs. Revisiting the key verb patterns with new verbs is essential to securing the knowledge and its applicability in a new context. The cultural background of Belgium and Switzerland adds context and awareness. Communicative competence is enhanced as pupils ask and answer questions in the present and past tenses and extend descriptions of places in the present and past with 'il y a' and 'il y avait' and
