Description

In this unit, pupils expand their vocabulary with an extended reading text by a French poet. They consolidate their knowledge of vocabulary agreement, revisit sound symbol correspondences, add new ones (qu, j and soft g) and apply their knowledge in creating their own versions of the poem.

This unit secures pupils' previous knowledge of adjective agreements with practice in a culture-rich and creative context. Pupils learn to respond to the text with curiosity and persistence as they are supported to apply known and learn new high frequency vocabulary in accessible literature. In this scaffolded approach, pupils learn to respond in writing, which includes expanding their personal repertoire. In later units they will extend this skill, developing confidence in reading (aloud) and responding to more complex texts, with a secure foundation in high frequency vocabulary.
