Description

In this unit, pupils re-examine verbs like choisir, partir and venir in the present, and add to this verbs like ouvrir. They revisit questions, pre-nominal adjectives, contraction of articles after à and de, and expand knowledge of negation. A further focus is the use of direct object pronouns.

This unit builds on pupils' prior understanding of -ir verb patterns, question-forming and verbal negation by first recapping familiar language before adding in new verbs and negative structures. Pupils use their prior and new knowledge to build questions and positive and negative statements to communicate in a culturally rich context, discovering many of France's famous attractions. Direct object pronouns, touched on at KS3, are also consolidated and expanded to cover all persons in new contexts, preparing pupils for further work on the preverbal position of a range of pronouns at KS4.

  1. 'On part pour la France' : -ir verbs like 'choisir' and 'partir'; adjectives
  2. Des endroits touristiques : -ir verbs like venir, position of adjectives
  3. Au château de Versailles : -ir verbs like ouvrir (singular)
  4. Une visite scolaire : -ir verbs like ouvrir (plural)
  5. Des monuments historiques : 'il y a' and 'il n'y a pas'
  6. Des monuments commémoratifs : contraction of definite article after 'à'
  7. Un nouvel élève : yes/no questions with inversion, intonation and est-ce que
  8. Une nouvelle vie en France : liaison, questions, jouer à/de, negation
  9. Une nouvelle vie en France : negation
  10. On organise des visites : reflexive pronouns, direct object pronouns
  11. Ça ne vous intéresse pas ? Direct object pronouns, negation
  12. On va à un concert : direct object pronouns, reflexive pronouns and negation
