Why this why now
This unit secures pupils' previous knowledge of adjective agreements with practice in a culture-rich and creative context. Pupils learn to respond to the text with curiosity and persistence as they are supported to apply known and learn new high frequency vocabulary in accessible literature. In this scaffolded approach, pupils learn to respond in writing, which includes expanding their personal repertoire. In later units they will extend this skill, developing confidence in reading (aloud) and responding to more complex texts, with a secure foundation in high frequency vocabulary.
Prior knowledge requirements
- Pupils know that adjectives must 'agree' with the noun they are describing.
- Pupils know that many adjectives come after the noun.
- Pupils know the meanings of the indefinite articles 'un' and 'une'.
- Pupils know the meanings and uses of the definite articles 'le', 'la', 'les', and 'l''.
- Pupils can make some job titles feminine.
- Pupils know what a simile is.
