      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can name and locate food which is from outside the UK.

      Key learning points

      1. Food is produced all around the world, including the UK.
      2. There are many different types of food grown, reared and caught around the world.
      3. Countries have different cuisines, based on the food available, cooking techniques, traditions and customs.

      Keywords

      • Cuisine - a style or method of cooking in a certain country or region

      • Food traditions - customs and dishes around cooking in a country or region

      Common misconception

Recipes from around the world can only be cooked using ingredients from those countries.

We can prepare and cook recipes from other countries using ingredients grown, reared or caught in the UK. Sometimes there are ingredients that are not grown or easily made in the UK, so foods from other countries are used.

      Teacher tip

To support learning, create a world food display. Include a map of the world, as well as books about different countries and their customs, including recipe books. To bring the lesson to life, allow pupils to taste a 'food from around the world' (checking for allergies and other restrictions).
