Key learning points
- Precise vocabulary is used to accurately describe setting and characters.
- Some vocabulary choices are more precise and appropriate than others.
- Imagining colours as we write that might evoke feelings for the reader helps us choose vocabulary.
- Nouns are referred to in different ways to avoid repetition.
Keywords
Noun - a person, place or thing
Adjective - a word that describes a noun
Verb - a doing or being word
Common misconception
Pupils may use adjective choices that are not precise enough or appropriate for a certain moment.

Teacher tip
Ask children to share their vocabulary ideas using mini-whiteboards or vocally before showing the vocabulary on the slides. Encourage collaborative approaches to sharing and generating vocabulary.
