This unit uses and builds on pupils' knowledge of speech writing from the unit 'The language of change'. Here, pupils focus more intensely on developing their own voices and build thier confidence and presence as a compelling public speaker. After completing speech writing in 'The language of change', pupils now focus on speech delivery. This unit concludes pupils' 11 year spoken language journey across primary and secondary by giving them the confidence and voice to speak their mind fluently in a variety of future-life situations.

- Pupils have an understanding of how to develop content for a speech or presentation
- Pupils can use rhetorical devices for effect in their own writing
- Pupils understand how to structure a speech or presentation
- Pupils can effectively engage an audience
- Pupils understand the conventions of spoken language
- Pupils have had practice in delivering speeches in front of an audience
- Pupils can use tone and pace to vary their delivery
- Pupils can use non-verbal communication to aid in the delivery of their speeches
