Lesson details

Learning outcome

I can use numbers and Word Order 2 to learn facts about Germany and Switzerland.

Vocabulary and transcripts for this lessons

Key learning points

  1. Subject and verb are inverted in Word Order 2 (WO2).
  2. German numbers are written as one word.
  3. Say single digits before tens in German numbers.

Keywords

  • Word Order 2 (WO2) - inverts the subject and verb in a sentence

  • [z] - sounds like [z] in ‘zwanzig’

Common misconception

German says double digits the same way as English.

In German, we say units first and then tens.

Teacher tip

Learning cycle 2 listening task has 2 options. Option 1 (higher) is recorded on the video. Option 2 slides, audio and worksheet are available as required. In cycle 3, give pupils time to discuss all the examples of word order two they can find in the text before bringing up the explanations.
