Sales and marketing
Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can understand how maths is used in sales and marketing.
Key learning points
- When considering how much to spend on an ad campaign, you need to determine its worth
- Google analytics can help with analysing the impact of an ad campaign
Keywords
Profit - Profit is a business’ financial gain; the difference between the revenue and the cost.
Common misconception
Reducing the cost to increase sales is always the best option.
Although this may seem a good idea, increasing the number of units sold means increasing the amount made and therefore the cost to the business. Therefore the situation needs to be carefully considered.
Teacher tip
Pupils might like to use spreadsheet software to write formulas that will calculate the effect on revenue, cost and profit quickly so that they can investigate when it is better for the business and when it is not.
