These song guides are designed around studying and performing two pieces of music, giving learners the chance to investigate melody, rhythm, harmony, and musical style. Pupils will learn to sing in harmony using different textures building independence and confidence with focus on balance and blend.
Prior knowledge requirements
- Pupils have experience of singing in unison textures
- Pupils have experience of singing in homophonic textures
- Pupils understand why and how to prepare and warm up the body for singing including taking a good singing breath
- Pupils can demonstrate good vocal technique including including clear tone, use of tall vowels and controlled vocal onset
- Pupils have experience of performing in an extended song structures (e.g. verse, chorus, bridge)
- Pupils have performed songs which use syncopation and understand that this emphasises notes between the main beats
- Pupils have performed songs using dynamics and emphasis within the phrase to add expression
- Pupils are aware that balance involves listening to all the parts in the ensemble and adapting so all parts can be heard
