Downloads can take a few minutes, especially for larger files or slower connections.

Why this why now

This unit builds on pupils’ prior solo performance work by shifting focus to ensemble skills required for GCSE performance assessment. Pupils develop timing, balance, communication and shared interpretation within group settings. Pupils can consider their skills in performing collaboratively, responding to others and refining their performances, contributing to their preparation for their ensemble performance.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils can perform solo pieces with basic accuracy and fluency.
  • Pupils understand rhythm, pitch, tempo and dynamics in performance.
  • Pupils can follow notation or lead sheets in performance contexts.
  • Pupils have experience performing individually and in group settings.
  • Pupils understand basic rehearsal strategies to improve performance.
  • Pupils can identify areas for improvement in their own performances.
  • Pupils can respond to feedback to improve accuracy and control.
