Lesson details

Learning outcome

I can pass the ball using a bounce and a chest pass, and move into space to help my team keep possession.

Key learning points

  1. Move: chest passes involve pushing the ball with both hands, stepping into the pass, extending arms towards the target.
  2. Move: a bounce pass involves stepping into the pass, pushing the ball towards the floor and extending our arms.
  3. Think: reflecting on our passing is important to decide whether we could have made a better choice of pass.
  4. Feel: working hard to use the correct passing technique shows good self-discipline.
  5. Connect: it is always important to enjoy keeping possession with our teammates and celebrate success.

Keywords

  • Chest pass - a straight pass where the ball is thrown from the passer's chest to their teammate's chest

  • Bounce pass - a passing technique where the ball is thrown to a teammate by bouncing it on the floor

  • Possession - the team in control of the ball

Common misconception

Pupils often believe that the harder they throw the ball, the better the pass will be.

Emphasise the importance of accuracy and remind the pupils that a softer, better-placed pass will be more effective and easier for teammates to receive.

Teacher tip

Whenever possible, highlight pupils demonstrating good technique and have them model it to the rest of the class. Ask the pupils to point out why it is a good example.
