Art that travels: stories, land and journeys

4 lessons

Description

This unit explores how art shares stories across time and place. Children cut paper, sculpt clay, and collage sails, transforming maps into textured journeys. Inspired by artists and histories, they discover art as a language of movement, exchange, identity, and belonging.

Each lesson centres on transformation: paper becomes sculpture, maps become textured stories, clay becomes travelling figures, and patterns become sails filled with meaning. Alongside sensory exploration, pupils encounter stories from the Silk Road to West Africa, reimagining borders not as lines but as pathways of exchange. The unit honours how ideas and materials travel, celebrating art as a shared language of place, journey, and belonging.
