Description

Pupils will investigate how artists create meaning and tell stories through their art. They will investigate symbolism in art and develop understanding that visual art, craft and design has multiple meanings beyond its surface depiction to support the development of their own visual literacy.

In this unit pupils apply critical and contextual skills to analyse the narratives and codes within artworks from different times and cultures. They develop their visual literacy and ability to use codes, symbols and visual metaphors in their own art work.

  1. Symbolism and stories in art, craft and design
  2. Drawing: create a character for a story
  3. Develop understanding of symbolism: collect and draw objects
  4. Plan a story artwork including character and objects
  5. Develop a story: creating a scenic composition
  6. Complete a story artwork: colour and detail
