Description

Pupils will look at the theme of fossils as a starting point for this unit. They make and abstract a drawing of a fossil using chalk pastels and charcoal. Pupils design and make a 3D fossil of the future sculpture using the casting process and design principles.

This unit encourages pupils to think critically about the relationship between humans and the natural world at a time when environmental issues are increasingly urgent and visible. By studying how artists respond to nature and environmental change, pupils learn that art can be both imaginative and purposeful - a way to communicate care, responsibility, and hope. This unit also gives pupils an opportunity to develop their voice as young artists -making choices, expressing opinions, and creating artworks that respond to real issues that affect their futures.

  1. Draw fossils in an abstract style
  2. An artist's respond to plastic waste
  3. Recording environmental textures
  4. Art that shows nature’s resilience
  5. Imagining a better future
